Albums

Toto's discography comprises 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also compilations. Toto has released original music as well as collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. Toto has won numerous Grammy Awards.

Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs' 1975 album Silk Degrees. The group's collaboration led to the formation of Toto in 1976.

Turn Back, Toto's third studio album was criticized by critics for the absence of hit singles. In 1985 the singer Fergie Frederiksen left the group and the band held auditions for a new frontman. The band picked guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in the year 1986.

Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to commemorate its 20th anniversary. The group went through old recordings and tapes to create the album. The album was well-received by fans, and the band embarked upon the tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

During the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun the drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour as well as an interview with Toto.

Toto has produced a number of music videos. The group has released a number of compilation videos and DVDs. The most watched video by the group is "Africa" which has more than one billion views on YouTube. The video is set in a library, with the band performing atop a stack of African books.

The song "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. It was written by band members and produced by David Paich. It was a huge success in Europe and a variety of other countries. The success of the single helped Toto gain popularity following their previous album, Turn Back, failed to chart in the United States.

After the album, Toto went on a world tour. The group included touring musicians Lenny Castro and Shannon Forrest. Warren Ham, Shem von Schröeck and Shem von Schroeck also were part of the group. Steve Lukather also released his second solo album, Luke.

In 1985 the drummer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from Toto due to personal reasons. Toto held an audition to find the replacement for Frederiksen.
